I think homework is always self-motivating when kids can see a purpose for it. When they are able to know that going home and working on “x” means they will be ready to do something awesome with it at school the next day. This might mean doing things like studying up on figurative language tools so that you will be able to use them on our poetry walk down to the nearby lake. Or brushing up on mean, median and mode in order to participate in a virtual group walk from Boise to Las Vegas. Making sure that homework tasks serve a purpose other than occupying time – that is the key to self-motivated homework.
